Techs and staff are dedicated to your successful diagnosis and treatment. Not only are our affiliated physicians experts in the field, but one of our own team members was involved in developing the laser technology that is used for Focal Laser Ablation.
Xavier Garcia-Rojas, M.D., Ph.D, M.B.A
has been in private practice in the Houston area since 2013. He is an interventional radiologist, trained in minimally-invasive tumor biopsies and tumor ablation with advanced specialization in abdominal and pelvic MRI. He is dedicated to cutting edge treatments and the introduction of advanced technology to healthcare. Besides his clinical work, he is also part of a group developing new medical devices at the Texas Medical Center Innovation Institute with the goal of helping make physicians more accurate and efficient with needle insertions and decreasing patient pain.
Dr. Garcia-Rojas is a fellowship-trained radiologist specialized in image-guided therapies and tumor ablation. He obtained his medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine. He then did a radiology residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio where he served as chief resident of the unique joint Residency-Ph.D. program.
He obtained a Ph.D. via the radiological sciences program at the University of Texas with a dissertation thesis on image-guided tumor therapies. Afterwards, he spent two years at the National Center for Image-guided Therapy at Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital where he learned advanced MRI of the abdomen and pelvis and performed tumor ablation treatments in multiple organ systems. Throughout his training, he has received research funding from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute as well as the National Institutes of Health (NIH). While at Harvard he also took courses in value-based healthcare delivery and development of new technology at Harvard Business School. Dr. Garcia-Rojas has an M.B.A. from Rice University.
Anthony Hoang, M.D.
A urologist practicing at Houston Metro Urology, the largest and most well-known and regarded urology practice in the Houston area, Anthony Hoang, M.D. joins Laser Prostate Centers of America as a partner physician to round out the multi-specialty team. As one of the pioneers of the procedure, Dr. Hoang brings with him in-depth knowledge and experience with focal laser ablation (FLA).
With extensive experience in the field, Dr. Hoang received his medical degree from University of Texas and completed an internship and residency at University of Texas – Houston / MD Anderson Cancer Center where he was Chief Resident in urological surgery. Finally, at National Cancer Institute, National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Hoang completed his fellowship in urologic oncology where he performed many focal laser ablations (FLA) as part of the Phase I evaluating the feasibility of the treatment.
Awarded for his work in the field of urology, Dr. Hoang is a member of Society of Urologic Oncology and American Urological Association and has been featured in several medical journals for his publications and research on the role of MRI and focal therapy in the management of prostate cancer. Francisco “Paco” Gelpi, M.D., M.P.H.
is a urologist practicing at Houston Metro Urology, the largest and most well-known and regarded urology practice in the Houston area.
Dr. Gelpi completed his urology residency at at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, where he was Chief Resident. From there, he went on to Boston where he received his Masters in Public Health (M.P.H.) and completed his Urologic Oncology Fellowship at Harvard University. His M.P.H. focus was on improving clinical outcomes.
Dr. Gelpi is a member of many organizations including the American Urological Association, American College of Surgeons and American College of Physician Executives. His work has been published in urology journals on topics including new treatment options for prostate cancer, and he is the recipient of numerous academic honors and awards.

Dr. Gelpi has been invited to present a number of times for the American Urological Association and other professional groups both nationally and internationally and is recognized as an expert on prostate cancer. He speaks four languages including English, Spanish, French and Portuguese. His dedication to the field of urology coupled with his expertise make him a great partner physician for LPCA.
Carlos R. Hamilton III, M.D.,
a well-respected physician in the Houston community for many years, is also an interventional radiologist by training, understanding the importance and role of imaging in the detection and treatment of different diseases. Working in a hospital setting for many years before opening his own practice, Dr. Hamilton has treated thousands of happy patients using image-guidance to diagnose and treat with pinpoint accuracy. Dr. Hamilton is particularly interested in prostate cancer and bringing the standard of care up to par with that of other cancers.
Dr. Hamilton graduated magna cum laude from the honor’s program at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and was Chief Resident during his Diagnostic Radiology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. He completed his fellowship in Interventional Radiology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX.
Meagan Ong, MS, PA-C
is a native Houstonian who has been practicing in the field of interventional radiology since 2013. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Nutritional Sciences at Oklahoma State University where she received an academic scholarship and graduated with highest honors. She went on to obtain her Masters of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies from Baylor College of Medicine. She began her career in Surgical Oncology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center where she gained clinical and surgical experience as well as played a critical role in creating and implementing clinical protocols. Meagan was one of the few mid-level providers to be selected to participate on a surgical team to research quality and cost improvements for surgical departments across the hospital system.
She joined Carlos Hamilton III, MD in 2013, specializing in minimally invasive interventional radiology procedures. Not only has she excelled at a variety of image guided procedures, but she has also undertaken multiple leadership roles including clinic lead, project coordinator and teaching staff effective communication skills.
Meagan has always had a special interest in treating cancer patients, spreading awareness and educating the public on cancer detection and treatment options
Anil Shetty, M.B.B.S., M.E.
a physician scientist, led the clinical team at Visualase in the development of multiple laser applications including epilepsy, radiation necrosis and epidural spinal lesions. Having worked in the development of the technology that LPCA uses to treat prostate cancer, Dr. Shetty has immeasurable experience when it comes to the technology. As it relates to prostate treatment, Dr. Shetty partnered with different clinical groups at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), University of Chicago and Mayo Clinic in conducting clinical trials for prostate laser ablation.
Dr. Shetty completed his fellowship in the Diagnostic Imaging division at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX and was a key member of one of the top thermal therapy research groups in the world. His work with this research group involved developing MR temperature sequences, pre-clinical validation of laser ablation in brain and prostate and laser simulation.
He has numerous key publications in the field of MR temperature imaging and the use of laser ablation in brain tumors, epilepsy and prostate.
